Castle Aviation, a charter air business based in Akron, OH, provides clients with a variety of aviation services including private charters, aircraft maintenance and cargo operations. Michael Grossmann, Castle Aviation’s president and owner, formed the company in 1986 and has operated at Akron-Canton Airport (CAK) since 1999.
The company has grown significantly in recent years, and currently employs nearly 50 employees and owns 16 active aircraft. Castle Aviation plans to break ground on a new hangar facility at Akron-Canton Airport in the coming months. The company currently uses several buildings at the airport, owning two hangars and leasing two hangars and office spaces. The new space will include 50,000 square feet of hangar space, making it the largest at the airport.
“We have more planes than ever, more employees than ever and the business is growing,” said Grossmann.“ Because the company has been doing so well, we have the opportunity to consolidate our operations into one place. This will help us to run more efficiently and continue to bring a high level of service to our clients.”
Castle Aviation also uses its aircraft to support the Veterans Airlift Command (VAC), which provides free air transportation to post 9/11 combat wounded veterans and their families for medical purposes via a national network of volunteer aircraft owners and pilots. The company has flown more than 100 missions for the VAC in the last seven years.
“It was like a perfect fit. Because the company has been doing so well, we are able to donate more of our time and flight hours to this worthy cause,” Grossmann said. “We are proud to be able to support the Veterans Airlift Command, and the men and women who have sacrificed so much for this country.”
